Beatrice Mao Launches Manifesto, Vows to Transform Kampala

The Democratic Party (DP) yesterday, September 14, 2025, gathered at Serena Hotel in Kampala for the official launch of Beatrice Mao’s manifesto as she seeks the Kampala Lord Mayor seat.
Mao, who previously attempted to contest in 2021 but was disqualified over voter registration issues, unveiled her roadmap for the capital, pledging to champion universal healthcare, green initiatives, urban agriculture, tourism, and improved land and market management. She described her nomination as a fresh opportunity to deliver meaningful change to the city.
In her address, Mao underscored Kampala’s strategic importance, noting that the capital contributes more than 30% of Uganda’s GDP. She outlined a four-point vision aimed at building an inclusive, productive, and future-ready city:
- Establish a well-governed city with the authority and resources to meet its challenges.
- Create a dynamic and livable city that accommodates the needs of its youthful and growing population.
- Foster a productive city that attracts global investment and expands opportunities for all residents.
- Develop a sociable city that nurtures community cohesion and cultural diversity.
Hon. Norbert Mao, the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs and Beatrice’s husband, also addressed the gathering. He rallied support for her candidacy, describing her as a visionary leader committed to transforming Kampala into a digitally-driven, inclusive, and prosperous capital.
Her bid has already energized DP structures, with campaign posters and mobilization materials appearing across Kampala. She emerged as the party’s flag bearer after John Bosco Kamoga stepped down in her favor.
The race for City Hall is expected to be tightly contested, with Mao facing stiff competition from Eng. Ronald Balimwezo, the former Nakawa East MP, who is standing on the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket
