Liverpool news and transfers live after the late win at Burnley, with Alexander Isak gearing up for a debut against Atletico Madrid and Arne Slot offering a fitness update

Liverpool returned to Premier League action on Sunday, eventually beating Burnley by a single goal after Mohamed Salah's late penalty kick. Next up: the Champions League opener against Atletico Madrid.

Alexander Isak wasn't involved against Burnley with some minutes in the midweek game being eyed for his debut after he made the $169 million (£125 million) move to Anfield on transfer deadline day.

And Arne Slot confirmed post-match that Alexis Mac Allister, who was taken off at half-time, is just being managed carefully after an injury over the summer, so there is no fresh concern for the Argentine.

Slot will hold a press conference ahead of facing Atletico Madrid on Tuesday while Liverpool will also conduct an open training session ahead of the game then too.

Arne Slot on Alexis Mac Allister

Arne Slot eased concerns over Alexis Mac Allister after the midfielder was substituted at half-time during Liverpool’s 1-0 victory at Burnley on Sunday.

"He missed a lot of pre-season, so he is ready for one game a week, maybe [for] 70 to 90," Mac Allister said. "He played 90 for Argentina and he was really tired after 70.

"He doesn’t have the right build-up towards playing three games a week for 90 minutes, so it was always sure today that I would take him off after 60 minutes for him to be able to be back on the pitch again on Wednesday and for him to be on Saturday back on the pitch again.

"I had already made one substitution in the first half, so if I then take him off at 60 minutes that would be my second one. If I then want to make [another on] 75 then in end I can do nothing anymore."
