Case Hospital Fires Dr Kizito Over Presidential Bid

Case Medical Services has terminated the employment of Dr Deo Lukyamuzi Kizito, a surgeon at the facility, after he declared his intention to run for President in the 2026 elections.

In a letter signed by Chief Operating Officer Ronald Akankwasa, the hospital said it was necessary to disengage Dr Kizito in order to preserve neutrality.

“Following a meeting you had with our CEO regarding your decision to contest for the position of President, it is essential for Case Hospital to uphold its commitment to professionalism and maintain strict neutrality, avoiding any association with political affiliations or activities,” the letter reads.

“In adherence to this principle, we regret to inform you that we have disengaged you from your current position at the hospital effective immediately.

"We note your contributions and would like to express our sincere gratitude to you for the many years of dedicated service you have rendered to Case Hospital.”

Dr Kizito is no stranger to political ambition. In 2011, he contested for the Masaka mayoral seat and also stood for Parliament in the same year, losing to the late Mathias Kasamba.

A decade later, in 2021, he picked presidential nomination forms but did not contest.

His latest bid now sets him on course for the 2026 race, where he has pledged to tackle corruption within six months of assuming office, channeling recovered funds to health and social services, while also pushing for constitutional amendments to limit presidential powers.

The hospital’s decision has raised questions, since Uganda’s standing orders require only public servants to resign before engaging in politics.

Case Hospital, being a private medical facility, has not clarified whether its internal human resource policies contain similar provisions.

The Nile Post has contacted both Dr Kizito and Case Hospital on the matter.

This is a developing story that will be updated
