2026 Elections: City Lawyer Jet Tumwebaze to Face Off with Museveni’s Brother in Mawogola North
As Uganda heads toward the 2026 general elections, political temperatures in Mawogola North, Sembabule district are heating up after Kampala lawyer Jet Tumwebaze declared his bid to challenge President Museveni’s brother, Sodo Aine Kaguta, for the parliamentary seat.
Sodo, the ruling NRM’s flag bearer, was declared unopposed in the party primaries. However, Tumwebaze has openly questioned his competence.
“How do you elect someone who struggles to express himself in English to Parliament, where debates and legislation are conducted in English?” Tumwebaze asked.
He noted that while Sodo may have other abilities, representation in Parliament requires strong debating skills.
“You need someone who can take on the best debaters such as Ssemujju, Ssegona, and Abdul Katuntu. How will he debate with them? In which language?” he added.
Sembabule district has a history of violent and chaotic elections, often marred by bloodshed and political turmoil. Tumwebaze has called on Sodo and his supporters to refrain from using force in the coming polls
