One killed, another injured in Luuka night robbery incident
Luuka, Uganda: The Territorial Police in Busoga North Region are investigating a brutal robbery incident in Luuka District that left one man dead and another seriously injured after being attacked by unidentified assailants on Friday night, October 24, 2025.
The attack occurred at around 10:00 p.m. along the swamp separating Buduuba Village and Bukoova Town Council, in Ikumbya Sub-county. The victims, identified as Birime Musa, 54, a peasant farmer from Buduuba A Village, and Mugabe Moses, a medical officer attached to Kiyunga Health Centre IV, were travelling on a red Boxer motorcycle, registration number UFP 823D, when they were ambushed.
According to police, the two were returning from Birime’s home in Buduuba when they were waylaid by armed attackers who inflicted multiple injuries and stole their motorcycle.
Birime Musa succumbed to his injuries at the scene, while Mugabe Moses managed to escape with serious wounds. He later alerted nearby residents and the area LC I Chairperson, who immediately informed Bukoova Police Station.
His colleague, Mugabe, was rushed to Iganga Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment in critical condition.
Police later recovered the stolen motorcycle about one kilometre from the scene, which has since been exhibited for forensic examination.
Busoga North Regional Police Spokesperson, SSP Samson Lubega, condemned the attack and confirmed that detectives from Luuka Central Police Station and Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO) had visited and documented the scene.
“The motive is suspected to be robbery, but we have opened inquiries to identify and arrest the culprits,” Lubega said. “We strongly condemn this senseless act of violence that claimed an innocent life. Our teams are pursuing leads, and we urge residents to cooperate and share information that can help in the arrest of the suspects.”
Police have since intensified night patrols in the area as investigations continue.
