Outgoing Wakiso district Chairman Matia Lwanga Bwanika has pledged his continued readiness to campaign for and vote Bobi Wine for President of Uganda. He says he isn’t angry over failure to get the NUP ticket for Busiro South MP seat, for which he is standing as a NUP-leaning independent.

Bwanika says that, rather than being angry at NUP, his anger is directed at the larger Museveni dictatorship which has strangled everyone and made it hard for multipartism to thrive in Uganda.

He says the candidates selection-related problems in NUP are only a symptom of the larger Ugandan problem whereby we no longer have political parties but mere “political clubs” each one of which has an individual owner claiming to be party leader. He says Gen Museveni has spent 40 years working day and night to suffocate multiparty politics.

Appearing on CBS where he was interviewed by Lameka Kalule, Bwanika said that his approach now is to identify good capable individual actors (regardless of party affiliation) and rally behind them as the push for a better-governed country intensifies.

He said that this is why he supports Bobi Wine for Presidency because he realizes that he is well intentioned and means well, his political inexperience notwithstanding. He says that in his view, Kyagulanyi can make a good President of Uganda for as long as he accepts advice and gets to be surrounded by men and women of experience and great wisdom.

During the same CBS radio appearance, Bwanika made it clear that he doesn’t support Nasif Najja, the Wakiso LC5 district Speaker who is the NUP candidate for the position of Wakiso LC5 Chairman. He said that from what he knows, everything that is publicly owned under Wakiso district local government will be gone in his first five years, should Najja succeed in becoming the new district Chairman coming immediately after him.

Bwanika said a good NRM cadre could be a better LC5 Chairperson for Wakiso than Najja who he said claims to be an opposition person, when he actually isn’t. Bwanika, who one time survived being impeached by Councillors who had been incited by Najja, said he was praying day and night that Najja doesn’t win because that will be the worst news for Wakiso.

The man, who has been Wakiso Chairman since 2011, added that from what he knows, having closely observed his lack of good qualities, he feels he has a duty to caution Wakiso voters not to ever dig their grave by making Najja the new district Chairman.

Bwanika said he has a duty to do all he can to make sure that Najja’s true colours get to be understood before Wakiso residents cast their vote. He said much as he still professes NUP, voters should consider individual qualities and credentials of the different candidates and elect them because of their individual goodness instead of merely being swayed by the umbrella symbol.

Bwanika said that his original choice had been former Makindye Sabagabo MP Sempala Kigozi Ssajjalyabene who for some reason ended up not standing for the district Chairmanship. He said in the absence of Ssempala on the ballot paper, his candidate now is Flavia Nakafeero who is carrying Mathias Mpuuga’s DF flag.

Bwanika said he these days chooses people to support and vote for or to even partner with in his politics based on their individual capabilities and not mere party affiliation. He said he is sure Nakafeero will be a good Chairperson for Wakiso district, and not Najja even when he is a personal friend to Bobi Wine Kyagulanyi Ssentamu.
