Barely a day after the official kickoff of parliamentary campaigns across the country, Ssembabule District Woman MP candidate Nina Roz of the National Unity Platform (NUP) has suspended her campaign activities.

The artiste turned politician announced the suspension following the arrest of her father, Matia Nshemereire, who was detained in connection with a cattle theft case in Rutunku, Lugusulu Sub-county, an area that borders President Museveni’s farm in Kisozi, Gomba District.

Nshemereire was reportedly arrested on November 9, 2025, after police investigations linked him to the theft.

According to Twaha Kasirye, the regional police spokesperson, another suspect identified as Nyamuhanga, who had earlier been arrested, implicated Nshemereire as a key accomplice in the cattle theft incidents.

However, Nina Roz insists her father is innocent and claims the case is politically motivated.

My father is just framed up. This case is political. The CCTV at the President’s farm should be used to bring out the truth.

Nina Roz, who had planned to officially start her campaign in Lwemiyaga County, instead spent the day camped outside Ssembabule Central Police Station, where her father is being held.
