The territorial police in Mityana are currently investigating the murder of Deus Tumusime, also known as Darius, a sales manager for Hajji Bashri and a resident of Kamala Cell, Kawempe Division, in Kampala District. The incident occurred on July 13, 2024, at approximately 9:30 a.m. at the Mirona Ma Hotel, located in Busimbi Division, Mityana Municipality.
Preliminary findings reveal that on the evening of July 12, 2024, around 6:00 PM, Tumusime checked into room B2 at the Mirona Ma Hotel. Later that night, he returned to the hotel at 4:00 AM, accompanied by an unknown woman, both allegedly intoxicated and shouting. The pair proceeded to Tumusime’s room and reportedly fell asleep shortly after.
The following morning, at around 8:00 a.m., Tumusime ordered breakfast, which was delivered to his room. However, at approximately 9:00 AM, guests and staff reported hearing groaning sounds emanating from room B2, suggesting someone might be in distress.
Hotel cleaner Hadijja knocked on the door during checkout time, but a woman’s voice from inside assured her that they were fine and preparing to leave.
Shortly thereafter, hotel manager Resty Namuli observed on the security camera a woman in red attire and a brown coat leaving the hotel, believed to be the same woman who had been with Tumusime.
At around 10:00 AM, Matovu Mutawe, a friend of Tumusime, informed the hotel staff that he was unable to reach Deus by phone. Concerned, Namuli went to check on Tumusime. Upon receiving no response after knocking on the door, she peered through the window and saw Tumusime lying naked and lifeless, with bloodstains on the pillow, bedsheets, and mattress cover.
The police were promptly notified and responded to the scene. They discovered Tumusime’s body in room B2, with bruises on his face, a cloth tied around his neck, and blood oozing from his mouth and nose. His wallet and notebook were found on the table, but his phone and money were missing.
Additional evidence collected from the scene included a Rock Boom bottle, a stone on the bed, and remnants of the food served earlier.
“The body of the deceased has been taken to Mityana Hospital for a postmortem examination,” said SP Racheal Kawala, the Wamala Region Police Spokesperson.
“We have reviewed the hotel CCTV footage and are working diligently to identify, arrest, and bring the suspect to justice.”
