Buhweju Residents Shocked by Mwijukye’s Public Conduct: “He’s Not the Same MP We Knew”
Reports coming from Buhweju indicate that the Member of Parliament for Buhweju County, Hon. Francis Mwijukye, has allegedly been engaging in questionable public behavior following what residents describe as a loss of direction after two parliamentary terms without delivering expected services.
According to sources, the legislator has recently been seen frequenting local bars, drinking with residents, and attempting to present himself as a common man who can relate to ordinary people.
Witnesses claim that Mwijukye, who once carried himself as a model leader, is now often seen dining and drinking freely in public places and sometimes appearing drunk. Some locals have interpreted this as a sign of frustration or stress.
Residents who live near him say the MP no longer keeps a low profile and that “he drinks openly and even buys food for those around him,” something that has raised concern among some of his supporters.
Others allege that he sometimes joins youth in night gatherings, joking and laughing with them as though he were one of them. “He calls himself one of us, a poor man, but his behavior has left many divided — some think he’s simply trying to connect, while others believe he’s lost direction,” one resident said.
Mwijukye is reportedly among the first to attend funerals and social gatherings, eating and drinking with mourners — behavior that some locals interpret as unbecoming of a leader of his stature.
There are also claims that due to political pressure and declining support, the legislator has turned to humor and social escapades, prompting people to question when he actually performs his duties as an MP — such as meeting his constituents, advocating for government programs, and participating in parliamentary work.
Currently, residents of Buhweju express frustration and disappointment, saying their leaders have turned politics into mere drama instead of focusing on service delivery and community development.
Some sources close to the community also allege that certain individuals are accusing Mwijukye of borrowing money from locals and failing to pay it back. When confronted, he reportedly responds jokingly, saying, “Leave me alone — I don’t have money.”
While some continue to criticize him, others, particularly his die-hard supporters, have defended him, saying he remains approachable and close to the people.
Meanwhile, there are reports suggesting that Mwijukye could be planning a political comeback despite the controversies. It is alleged that he might be considering switching allegiance to the NRM party, which could change the political dynamics in Buhweju.
If true, this would mark a significant shift in local politics and may explain his recent interactions with various groups on the ground.
For now, the people of Buhweju remain divided — some questioning whether their leaders truly serve their interests, or merely seek survival in the political arena.
