Uganda advance to U17 World Cup last-16 after hard-fought win over Senegal
Uganda’s U17 boys’ team booked their place in the FIFA U17 World Cup round of 16 after a gritty 1–0 victory over Senegal on Friday.
Abubakali Walusimbi produced the decisive moment of the match with a superb first-half strike, finishing off a swift Ugandan move to give the Cubs a crucial lead.
Senegal pressed relentlessly after the break, forcing Uganda into long spells of defending, but the young Cubs showed discipline and resilience to hold on until the final whistle.
The win secures Uganda’s historic progression into the knockout stage, where they will face either defending champions Germany or Burkina Faso in the next round.
It marks another milestone in what has already been a landmark tournament for the rising Ugandan side.
