Three Remanded Over Land Grabbing

The State House Anti Corruption Unit (SHACU) working together with the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) and Criminal Investigations Division (CID) of Uganda Police, have arraigned Ssempijja Edward, a businessman; Mirimu Ivan, a transport and clearing agent; and Bbaale Joseph, a businessman, before the Wakiso Chief Magistrates Court on charges of forcible entry, destroying crops, and theft.

These have denied all the charges read to them, and being that investigations in the matter are still under way, they have been remanded to Prison until 03/12/2025.

Prosecution alleges that the trio and others still at large, between October 30 and November 4, 2025, at Kasanje Town Council in Wakiso District, engaged in violent acts to seize land comprising Busiro Block 514, Plots 6, 10, & 12.

That , they assembled a large number of people and entered the land, which was occupied by

Pontiano Kaweesa Ssengendo of Kamuli Industrial Estates Ltd, and unlawfully destroyed tree plantations, coffee trees, and other natural trees.

That they also stole nine motors of coffee milling machines — property of Kamuli Industrial Estates Ltd — worth approximately UGX 100 million.
