Museveni lashes out at Kyagulanyi, Muntu and Nandala, says they have no ‘work to show’
President Museveni arrives to address NRM supporters at Namayingo Primary School. He urged voters to reject opposition candidates in the 2026 elections.
Namayingo, Uganda: President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has asked Ugandans to deny their votes to the three leading opposition presidential candidates, accusing them of having no tangible contribution to the country’s development.
Addressing supporters at Namayingo Primary School on Wednesday afternoon, the NRM presidential flag bearer said Robert Kyagulanyi (NUP), Mafabi Nandala (FDC) and Maj Gen Mugisha Muntu (ANT) “have nothing to show” to justify their bid for the presidency.
“Kyagulanyi, Muntu, together with Nandala have done nothing apart from running around shouting,” Museveni said. “Ask them what they have done.”
The President told supporters to challenge his opponents by listing achievements made under the NRM government, insisting that the ruling party has fundamentally transformed Uganda over the last decades.
Museveni cited the creation of 1.3 million jobs in factories established under NRM’s industrialisation agenda, alongside 480,000 government jobs. “As I speak now, 1.3 million people are working in factories spearheaded by NRM. When someone asks why you support NRM, tell them it has added a brick to the building of Uganda,” Museveni said.
He added that NRM has built schools, hospitals, security structures and an extensive road network across the country.
At the same function, First Lady Janet Kataha Museveni thanked residents for attending the rally in large numbers. “When I see you here today in big numbers, I thank God for giving you the wisdom to support NRM,” she said, adding that the crowd showed that “Ugandans have not forgotten the good things NRM has done.”
Meanwhile, Namayingo NRM District Chairperson, Mr Mukisa Raymond, hailed Museveni’s government for constructing the district’s first tarmac road and providing a ferry service.
He, however, asked the President to address outstanding needs, including the creation of a new district for Sigulu Islands, elevation of Namayingo Town Council into a municipality and doubling PDM funds to match the unique economic needs of fishing communities.
Mukisa said the current financing model does not suit fisherfolk whose enterprises differ from those in agricultural regions.
Kadaga Wants Namayingo Sugar Factory Reopened
First Deputy Prime Minister Rebecca Kadaga raised concerns over the closure of CN Sugar Factory, which had been a major employer in the district. The factory was shut down in January 2025 following a court decision that its license was issued by an unauthorized body.
Kadaga appealed to residents to vote President Museveni to ensure their demands are addressed. “For you to get what you want, vote for the party chairman so that he gives you what you want,” she said.
She further called on the President to intervene in the proposed ban on sugarcane weighbridges set up by millers in different localities, saying the move would disadvantage farmers.
Kadaga explained that weighbridges allow farmers to sell whatever small quantities they harvest, instead of being forced to deliver full truckloads to factories—making the current system more favourable to smallholders.
