In a shocking and tragic incident that has left the Mukono community in disbelief, an on-duty police officer was gunned down while responding to a robbery in Ntawo, Mukono District. The attack, which took place on the night of November 23, 2025, at approximately 10:25 PM, has sent shockwaves through the police force and the local public.

According to the police report, the deceased officer, ASP Bagenda Emmanuel, who was the Officer in Charge (OC) of the Ntawo Police Post, was on patrol with his colleague, No. 51263 PC Kiyingi Jackson, responding to information about a robbery that had taken place earlier along Nakabago Road. The two officers set out on a motorcycle, registered as UMA 879GQ, to intercept the suspects who were reportedly riding another motorcycle.

As the officers neared the suspected robbers, the situation escalated. The robbers, upon seeing the police, refused to stop and sped past the officers. In an attempt to intercept them, ASP Bagenda rode ahead, leaving PC Kiyingi Jackson behind on the motorcycle. Moments later, as the officers tried to catch up, the surviving officer, PC Jackson, was shot at and knocked off his bike. Meanwhile, ASP Bagenda disappeared into the night, his location unknown.

PC Jackson, who had fallen to the ground, was eventually found and rushed to Mukono General Hospital, before being transferred to Nakasero Hospital for further treatment. Despite an intensive search led by the Mukono District Police Commander (DPC), ASP Bagenda’s whereabouts remained a mystery. His phone went unanswered, and the search continued throughout the night.

The following morning, the body of ASP Bagenda was discovered in a trench near the scene, facing down in a pool of blood, with a bullet wound to his head. Police at the scene immediately launched a search for evidence. Four spent cartridges were recovered, along with the motorcycle that had been used by the deceased officer, which had been moved to the nearby Ntawo Police Post.

The police report revealed that ASP Bagenda had been shot as he attempted to stop the fleeing suspects. The surviving officer, PC Jackson, also had his weapon taken during the attack, leaving many questions unanswered about the motives behind the crime.

As investigations continue, authorities are focusing on several leads. A thorough search of the scene will be conducted in daylight hours, with the possibility of finding additional evidence. Police are also investigating whether any nearby CCTV cameras captured footage of the incident, which could provide critical information about the suspects and their motorcycle’s registration number.

Witnesses are being sought to provide statements, and the police are examining the call records in the area to identify any potential connections to the suspects. The case remains under investigation, and the police are determined to bring those responsible for this brutal murder and robbery to justice.

This tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the risks that law enforcement officers face every day in the line of duty. The loss of ASP Bagenda is a significant blow to the Mukono Police Division, and his colleagues and family are left mourning the loss of a dedicated officer who gave his life in service to the community. The entire force, alongside the residents of Mukono, are left hoping for swift justice and closure in this chilling case
