New Digital Creators Summit to Boost Creative Economy
Stanbic Bank Uganda, in partnership with the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), ONGEA Africa and the Uganda Digital Society, has launched the Stanbic Ongea Digital Creators Summit, a major initiative aimed at empowering young creators with digital skills, business training, financial literacy and guidance on responsible online content practices.
The launch in Kampala marks the start of a multi-stakeholder effort to strengthen Uganda’s creator economy—one of the country’s fastest-growing sectors driven by youth innovation and digital entrepreneurship.
Lois Kwikiriza, Head of Consumer and High Net Worth Marketing at Stanbic Bank, reaffirmed the bank’s commitment as the lead sponsor and naming-rights partner of the summit.
She said the programme aligns with Stanbic’s broader mission to expand economic opportunities for young people.
Kwikiriza announced that Stanbic has set aside Shs1 trillion over the next three years to support youth, women and farmers, including those operating in the digital creator space.
“Skills outlive trophies, and scholarships will give creators world-class capabilities to grow, monetise and professionalise their work,” she said, emphasising the bank’s dedication to youth empowerment and digital transformation.
UCC’s Head of Competition and Consumer Affairs, Kenneth Tweheyo, said the Commission backs platforms like the Ongea Summit because they promote responsible content creation, digital safety and innovation.
“Together we can grow a safe, inclusive and empowered digital ecosystem,” he said.
According to organisers, the Stanbic Ongea Digital Creators Summit is designed to equip participants with practical business tools, policy awareness, responsible content skills and commercial opportunities.
The goal is to help Ugandan creators rise, innovate and grow sustainably in a competitive regional market.
The summit is expected to strengthen Uganda’s position within Africa’s creator economy by enhancing digital and financial literacy, promoting ethical online engagement and connecting creators to policymakers, brands, financial institutions and digital experts.
Organisers expect the event to attract a diverse mix of creators, industry leaders and innovators from Uganda and across the region, signalling a new chapter in professionalising and expanding the country’s digital creative sector.
