Electoral Commission Advertises Presiding Officer, Polling Assistant Jobs
The Commission invites applications for Presiding Officers and Polling Assistants to serve at polling stations across the country. Applicants must be registered voters, of high moral character and integrity, and preferably residents of the respective polling areas. Experience in election-related work is an added advantage.
JOB ADVERT – PRESIDING OFFICERS AND POLLING ASSISTANTS
The Electoral Commission, established under Article 60 of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda and mandated to, among others, conduct free, fair and transparent elections and referenda, invites applications from suitably qualified persons with proven integrity to fill vacant positions on a short-term engagement within its establishment.
The vacant positions are;
Presiding Officer (One per polling station)
Polling Assistant (Four per polling station)
Position 1 : Presiding Officer
Duty station : All Polling Stations country-wide
Immediate Supervisor: Parish Election Officer Tenure : Appointed Polling Days
Allowance : Shs. 100,000/= per polling day
Job purpose:
To assist in conducting the four (04) major election categories as indicated below;
Presidential and Parliamentary
District/City/Chairpersons and Councilors
Municipality/City Division Mayors and Councilors
Sub-county Chairpersons and Councilors
Duties of a Presiding Officer
Reports to the Returning Officer through the immediate supervisor;
Set up and organize the polling station;
Overall management of the polling process at the polling station;
Supervise the verification of voters using the Bio-metric Voter Verification Kit and or hard copy of the Voters’ Register;
Issue ballot papers to the voters
Supervise polling day officials;
Receive and provide accountability of election materials;
Ensure safe custody of election materials
Ensure proper filling of election forms;
Submit election returns to the Returning Officer;
Ensure peace and security at the polling station;
Keep records of the proceedings at the polling station;
Mobilize furniture to facilitate the polling process;
Qualifications, skills and person specifications:
Possession of Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) or its equivalent.
Should have high moral character and proven integrity.
Must be a registered voter in the district of choice
Preferably a resident of the area where the polling station is located
Experience in elections related work is an added advantage.
Age limit: 18 years and above
Position 2 : Polling Assistant
Duty station : All Polling Stations country-wide
Immediate Supervisor : Presiding Officer
Tenure : Appointed polling days
Allowance : Shs. 75,000/= per polling day
Job purpose:
To assist in conducting the four (04) major elections categories as indicated below;
Presidential and Parliamentary
District/City/Chairpersons and Councilors
Municipality/City Division Mayors and Councilors
Sub-county Chairpersons and Councilors
Duties of Polling Assistants:
Reports to the Presiding Officer;
Assist the presiding officer in management of elections at the polling station
Marking/dipping the finger of a voter after casting the ballot;
Assisting the Presiding Officer to fill election forms at the start, during and closure of polling;
Assist the Presiding Officer in ensuring peace and security at the polling station;
Assist the Presiding Officer in setting up the polling station;
Any other duties as assigned;
Qualifications, skills and person specification:
Possession of Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) or its equivalent
Should have high moral character and proven integrity
Preferably a resident of the parish where the polling station is located
Experience in elections related work is an added advantage.
Age limit: 18 years and above
A shortlist of candidates to appear for interviews will be pinned at the respective offices of the District Election Administrators/Returning Officers, indicating the dates and venues for conducting interviews.

Applications and Curriculum Vitae (CV) showing the applicant’s contact address with a day-time telephone number(s), should be completed and submitted to the respective District Election Administrator where the applicant may wish to work, in any case not later than Friday, 19thDecember, 2025.
