Lionel Messi on Saturday improved his record for being the world's most decorated footballer after claiming 47th trophy of a glorious career.

Football icon Lionel Messi cannot stop winning trophies. His overflowing trophy cabinet has a new entrant in Major League Soccer Cup. Messi’s Inter Miami defeated the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday to win their first ever MLS Cup title and the Argentine added another feather to his cap with a record-extending 47th trophy of what continues to be a glorious career. Messi played the starring role in the title triumph as he provided two assists in a 3-1 win in the final in Florida.

Messi was also adjudged as the Most Valuable Player.

Since joining the MLS club from Paris Saint-Germain, the 38-year-old has won three silverwares including Leagues Cup in 2023, Supporters’ Shield in 2024 and MLS Cup in 2025.

Messi has also won Ballon D’Or award a record eight times – an award handed to the world’s best player annually. He began his club career with FC Barcelona before making a stunning move to French club Paris Saint-Germain from where he moved to Inter Miami.
