Manchester United injury update: Matthijs de Ligt, Benjamin Sesko, Harry Maguire latest news and return dates

Manchester United are sweating over the fitness of three key players as they prepare for the visit of Bournemouth this weekend.

Matthijs de Ligt is their latest concern after he missed the 1-1 draw against West Ham and the 4-1 win at Wolves.

That was despite manager Ruben Amorim saying that the Dutchman only had a “small thing” that prevented him from facing the Irons last Thursday.

The victory at Molineux lifted United up to sixth in the Premier League table, one point off the top four.

Matthijs de Ligt

Manchester United were without Matthijs de Ligt for Thursday night’s clash against West Ham, and then once more for the visit to the Black Country.

The Dutchman was at the heart of the defence in the 2-1 win at Crystal Palace, but did not feature in either matchday squad against West Ham or Wolves.

Amorim revealed before the Wolves game that he does not expect the Dutchman to be sidelined for too long, but with his absence in the Midlands on Monday, the Portuguese was asked once more about the defender’s whereabouts.

"I don't know, sometimes you have an idea then you have to see day by day,” Amorim said post-match.

“I'm not going to say when he is coming back.”

Potential return date: December 13 2025 vs Bournemouth (H)

Benjamin Sesko

Summer signing Sesko is still a couple of weeks away from returning to the first-team fold.

The Slovenian injured his knee off the bench in the 2-2 draw at Tottenham last month, and he did not join up with his country in the last international window.

It is believed that the forward will be back in two weeks’ time, and that will be a welcome boost considering the departures of Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo for the Africa Cup of Nations.

Harry Maguire

Maguire is another that remains out for United.

The England international is out with a hamstring problem having also suffered the injury at Tottenham, similarly to Sesko.

The centre-back is believed by Amorim to be on the same recovery timeline as Sesko, and he could also return to action in a fortnight’s time.
