AN Olympic swimmer has been sent home after sneaking out of the athletes village to spend a night with her boyfriend.

Ana Carolina Vieira, from Brazil, was sent packing after being caught short as she attempted to flout the rules to party with her partner.

The 22-year-old was a member of the country's 4X100m freestyle relay team which crashed out of the tournament ahead of the final on 27th July.

But the night before, on 26th July, Vieira and her boyfriend swimmer Gabriel Santos, sneaked out of the Olympic Village to sample Parisian nightlife, according to Brazilian media.

And when the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB) tried to discipline her, she reportedly abused them and was immediately booked on a flight home.

Santos, who had been eliminated in the heats of the men's 4x100 freestyle, was reprimanded after apologising.

The pair are seen as the golden couple of Brazilian swimming and have clocked up a huge social media following with their joint posts.

Instagram snaps range from training sessions in the pool, sightseeing in Uruguay and relaxed selfies with a fluffy dog.

Vieira has 25,000 Instagram followers and Santos has 15,000.

The couple, from Sao Paulo, are part of the Esporte Clube Pinheiros, one of the Brazilian athletics clubs with the most athletes at the Paris Olympics.


Vieira made her Olympic debut at the Tokyo Games.

She began her impressive career journey as a child when she wanted to join her firefighter parents on their trips to the sea.

She started her swimming journey in open water sports and only later mastered the pool.

In 2018, she won silver in the 4x100m freestyle relay at the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires and in 2021, she was part of the quartet in Tokyo.

It comes as an Olympics opening ceremony star suffered an X-rated wardrobe malfunction.

Fans compared the incident to an infamous scene on The Inbetweeners as one billion people worldwide tuned in for Friday’s Parisian performance.
