Kabaka Mutebi warns against threats to the kingdom during his 31st coronation anniversary

Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II has warned his subjects to be careful of people who want to destroy the Kingdom and urged them to exercise caution.

During today’s celebrations commemorating his 31st coronation anniversary, the Kabaka, who is still under medical supervision, spoke to his subjects in a televised address urging them not to let their guard down.

Kabaka said that although he has been away for several months receiving treatment, he has been following all the different events closely.

“The issues we have experienced in recent months have caused some people to unknowingly, or intentionally, insult and violate the morals of the kingdom and behave improperly. They have done many things to mislead our people about the throne and the kingdom. This is absolutely dangerous. You should be very careful with those people,” said the Kabaka.

He added, “We always encourage you to unite, protect, and respect our traditions and customs. This is where the enemy can pass if we neglect these issues.”

Kabaka Mutebi reminded his subjects about the norms of the kingdom, saying the Kabaka is not elected by the chiefs of the clan.

“The privileged chiefs are well known, and they know themselves and their responsibilities,” he said.

He also explained his leadership, saying, “The King rules the kingdom with the assistance of the Katikkiro, whom the King himself appoints. In our traditions, the Kabaka has the right to establish or revoke certain customs according to the times.”

Meanwhile, thousands of Buganda loyalists have attended prayers to mark Kabaka Mutebi’s 31st coronation anniversary at Namirembe Cathedral in Kampala. The Kabaka was represented by members of the Royal family led by the Nabagereka Sylvia Nagginda. The prayers were led by Namirembe Diocesan Bishop Moses Banja, who hailed the Kabaka for his efforts towards improving the lives of his subjects over the years.
