ULS President Ssemakadde Sends Lawyers to Defend Jailed Journalist Dean Lubowa
After being abandoned by the Uganda Journalists Association, which reportedly blamed him for his own troubles, jailed journalist Dean Lubowa Ssaava has received legal support from an unexpected source.
Reports indicate that exiled former Uganda Law Society president and Senior Counsel Isaac Ssemakadde has dispatched a team of lawyers to offer legal assistance to Lubowa, who is currently detained at Luzira Prison.
Sources say the lawyers have already paid an official visit to Lubowa at the prison. The journalist is facing several charges, including defamation, extortion, and computer misuse.
It is further understood that Lubowa is consulting with his legal team on whether issuing an apology to Nyombi Thembo could help resolve some of the issues he is facing.
Meanwhile, authorities reportedly gave Lubowa an opportunity to disclose the source of the information he allegedly used to tarnish the names of government officials. He is said to have declined, a decision that is believed to have contributed to his continued detention at Luzira
