UPDF Calls for Peace and Voter Participation Ahead of 2026 Elections.
KAMPALA, Uganda — The head of the Defence Public Information (DDPIO), Col. Chris Magezi, has urged Ugandans to maintain peace and actively participate in the upcoming 2026 elections. He also extended festive greetings to all citizens as the year comes to a close.
“On my behalf and on behalf of my superiors and all the officers and men of UPDF, we take this opportunity to wish all Ugandans in all corners of Uganda a happy ending to the year, a happy festive season and blessings as especially the Christians celebrate the birth of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ,” Col. Magezi said.
Col. Magezi reminded Ugandans of the importance of exercising their right to vote while preserving national stability.
“It is our appeal for all Ugandans of voting age to go and exercise that right of voting for their preferred leaders. But let everything be done to maintain the peace. This peace is very precious. Many of our neighbours don’t have it. Let’s guard it generously. I choose peace,” he said.
He further noted that security agencies are fully prepared to ensure a peaceful and secure electoral period.
“All security organs are working to provide maximum security during the elections and to oversee a process that is orderly, safe, and peaceful for every citizen,” Col. Magezi added.
As the UPDF continues to play a critical role in maintaining law and order, the public is being reassured that the military, alongside other security agencies, is committed to safeguarding both voters and the electoral process.
