Walukagga advises Azawi to focus on music, not social media activism

Mathias Walukagga has advised Swangz Avenue artist Azawi, to focus more on her music rather than chasing social media “clout.”

Walukagga’s comments came in response to Azawi’s recent vocal stance on corruption and regime change in Uganda.

Azawi has been using her social media platforms to address the corruption in the country. She recently participated in an X conversation (formerly Twitter) discussing these issues, earning praise from fellow musician and political figure Bobi Wine.

During the discussion, Azawi criticized fellow musicians for failing their fans by not taking a stand on critical issues.

She also shared personal experiences about losing her father, sister, and brother due to the lack of medicine in government hospitals, attributing these losses to corruption in government agencies.

Despite appreciating Azawi’s message, Walukagga believes that her efforts would be more impactful if she incorporated them into her music.

He argued that many people in rural areas, who may not have access to social media, miss out on these important messages. As the mayor of Nsangi, Walukagga emphasized that social media activism often fails to bring about tangible results.

He cited fellow musician King Saha as an example, noting how Saha expresses his emotions and beliefs through his songs.
