I Gave Hon. Nambooze Nearly Shs 1 Billion From Museveni – Anita Among

Speaker of Parliament Anita Among has claimed that Hon. Betty Nambooze, an opposition Member of Parliament from the National Unity Platform (NUP), received close to one billion Uganda shillings to facilitate medical treatment in the United Kingdom.

Speaking during a presidential campaign rally in Mukono ahead of the upcoming general elections, Among said the funds were provided with the knowledge and support of President Yoweri Museveni. According to the Speaker, the money covered travel and medical expenses for Nambooze, who reportedly travelled with her husband, Mr. Bakireke, and a domestic worker.

Among praised President Museveni for what she described as a compassionate gesture, saying that assistance was offered despite Nambooze’s continued criticism of the government and the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) on radio and television platforms.

“I want to thank you for having such a heart,” Among said, referring to the President. “Regardless of the fact that Nambooze has continued to attack and insult you publicly, that does not take away your good heart.”

The Speaker added that, on behalf of women across the country, she appreciated President Museveni’s leadership, describing him as “not just a leader but a father of the nation.” She also prayed for God’s blessings upon the President.

During the same address, Among criticized opposition leaders, accusing them of benefiting from government support while publicly condemning the ruling party.

“Opposition leaders should not lie to voters that they don’t benefit from the NRM,” she said. “We work with them and share what little we have, but when they return to the public, they demonize the ruling party for their own selfish interests.”

Among concluded by urging residents of Mukono and Ugandans nationwide to vote for President Museveni in large numbers on January 15, arguing that he remains the best choice to lead the country forward.

By press time, Hon. Betty Nambooze had not publicly responded to the claims.
