ISINGIRO – Police in Isingiro District have registered a major breakthrough in the murder investigation of Karuhanga Gordon, a 48-year-old resident of Rugaara Cell, Kagarama Parish, Kagarama Sub-county.

Following the report of the killing, police swiftly responded by deploying a multidisciplinary team comprising homicide detectives, Scenes of Crime Officers, and a K-9 unit to the scene.

A detailed examination was conducted, after which a sniffer dog was introduced. The dog picked up the strongest scent believed to belong to the suspect and tracked it for approximately 100 meters from the crime scene, eventually leading officers to a man identified as Gerald, who was among community members gathered in the area. The suspect was later positively identified.

According to police, the complainant identified Gerald as a co-worker of the deceased. Investigations established that both men were employed by the same individual to work on a plantation and had been living together in the same house.

Upon arrest, Gerald was found with bloodstains on his hands, suspected to be of human origin. During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to having fought with the deceased during the night after returning from a drinking joint. He further revealed that four other individuals who were in the house at the time were involved in the altercation.

Police also recovered suspected murder weapons from the scene, including a pit axe and a stick, both bearing bloodstains. The exhibits have been secured to aid ongoing investigations.

Police say inquiries are continuing as efforts intensify to establish the full circumstances surrounding the murder and to apprehend any other suspects involved.
