Police Investigate Death of Victoria University, MUBS Lecturer

Police at Kira Road Division are investigating the death of Dr. Tom Patrick Mugizi, a 64-year-old lecturer at Victoria University and Makerere University Business School (MUBS).

‎According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Public Relations Officer, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Dr. Mugizi, a resident of Kisota Zone, Kikaaya Parish in Nakawa Division, was found dead in his house after relatives failed to reach him by phone for several days.

‎Owoyesigyire said the incident was reported on January 3rd, 2026 by the deceased’s sister, Annet Nsasiirwe Annet Runtemu, after repeated attempts to contact him from December 31st, 2025. were unsuccessful.

‎

‎He added that a neighbour was asked to check on him and found Dr. Mugizi lying dead in his bed in a decomposing state. Police noted that the house was open but no property was missing.

‎

‎Owoyesigyire said officers visited and documented the scene, recorded statements from relevant witnesses, and conveyed the body to Mulago City Mortuary for a post-mortem examination.

‎

‎He noted that preliminary observations indicate the deceased had a history of chronic illnesses, although the exact cause of death is yet to be established.

‎Investigations into the matter are ongoing, according to police.
