You Voted a ‘Sleeping MP’ – Speaker Anita Among Criticises Hon. Aloysius Mukasa Over Poor Representation
The Speaker of Parliament and Second National Vice Chairperson of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), Rt. Hon. Anita Among, has criticised Rubaga South Member of Parliament Aloysius Mukasa, accusing him of failing to effectively represent his constituents in Parliament.
Addressing residents during ongoing presidential campaigns in Kampala, Among questioned the lawmaker’s performance, saying he has neither contributed to debates nor made any visible impact in Parliament.
She urged voters in Rubaga South to make informed choices in the upcoming elections, cautioning against voting based on popularity or political bandwagoning.
“You voted a whisker, yet he has never spoken or even coughed in Parliament,” Among said, calling on residents to vote wisely this time round.
She encouraged them to support the NRM, arguing that the party is better positioned to deliver improved services and development.
Among further called for targeted government interventions to strengthen wealth creation, youth empowerment and urban livelihoods.
She emphasized the need to streamline the Parish Development Model (PDM) to ensure it directly benefits youth and women, particularly in urban areas.
The Speaker also raised concerns over congestion at Kasubi Market and highlighted the importance of expanding skilling programmes to address unemployment.
The remarks were made during presidential campaign activities in Kampala, where President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is seeking to extend his leadership for another five-year term. Voting is scheduled to take place on 15 January.
Speaking at the same campaign rally held at Kitebi Primary School playgrounds, President Museveni urged residents of Rubaga Division to hold their elected leaders accountable for local challenges. He cautioned citizens against blaming the NRM government for shortcomings that fall under the responsibility of leaders they elected.
Accompanied by the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Kataaha Museveni, the President dismissed claims that the NRM has neglected Buganda, insisting that peace and development in the region are a direct result of NRM leadership.
Thousands of supporters attended the rally, signaling continued political activity in Kampala as the campaign period enters a critical phase.
