Rukungiri LC V Candidate in Critical Condition After Being Dumped on Minera Bridge
Angello Turinomuhangi, an independent candidate for the Rukungiri District LC V chairperson seat, is in critical condition at Nyakibale Hospital after being found tied up and dumped along Minera Bridge in Nyarushanje Sub- County, Rubabo County.
Turinomuhangi was discovered on Tuesday night around 9:30 PM. Alphonse Byamukama, Headteacher of St. Jerome Secondary School in Ndama, said he was driving from Nyarushanje Sub- County toward Rukungiri Town when boda boda riders stopped him, alerting him to a man dumped next to a motor vehicle with registration number UA 257BH.
Upon reaching the scene, Byamukama and the riders observed that the victim had a handkerchief tied across his mouth and his arms bound behind him with a suspected USB cable. Locals raised an alarm, later identifying the victim as Turinomuhangi, and alerted police, who rushed him to the hospital.
Elly Maate, Police spokesperson for the Kigezi region, confirmed that the motor vehicle belonged to the victim. He said police have opened a case of attempted murder and investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend the suspects behind the attack.
Turinomuhangi is contesting the LC V race against NRM candidate Andrewon Kateebire and People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) candidate Hillary Ainembabazi.
