UPDF blocks Lwemiyaga MP Sekikubo from campaign rallies
While preparations move forward, campaign tensions continue to simmer on the ground.
Multiple armed Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) soldiers reportedly blocked Lwemiyaga MP Theodore Sekikubo from holding campaign rallies in Bulongo Subcounty.
Sekikubo was scheduled to hold six rallies in Booma, Kinobi, Bigaaga, Kabeho, Kyembogo, and Kabukongoote. However, at Ssuula Road Junction—just 3 km from Kabukongoote—soldiers prevented him from proceeding.
A soldier reportedly said they were instructed to block Sekikubo to prevent possible confrontations with his opponent, Gen. Emmanuel Rwashande.
Supporters of Sekikubo condemned the move, accusing the soldiers of impunity and intimidation. Some residents called on NRM presidential candidate Yoweri Museveni to rein in senior UPDF officers acting beyond their mandate.
After an hour-long standoff, Sekikubo’s team was eventually allowed to continue to their campaign venues
