Police in Kiboga District have arrested 52 people for allegedly holding an unlawful political meeting at night in Kiboga Town Council, Kiboga West Constituency.

The arrests were made on Tuesday night after police raided Nile Gardens, where the group had reportedly been mobilised from different villages to attend a political gathering ahead of the January 15 general elections.

Wamala Region Police spokesperson, SSP Lameck Kigozi, said the operation followed intelligence reports.

“Last night at around 8:00 pm, police in Kiboga District, acting on intelligence information, stormed Nile Gardens in Kiboga Town Council and arrested 52 people who had been mobilised from different villages within Kiboga West Constituency in what we believe was an unlawful assembly,” Kigozi said.

According to preliminary statements from the suspects, they had been mobilised by a man identified only as Jimmy, who is said to be a campaign mobiliser for independent parliamentary candidate Kibuuka Muhamudu.

“The mobiliser managed to escape arrest,” Kigozi added.

The suspects told police that they were expecting their candidate to brief them on preparations for the January 15, 2026 elections. However, by the time police arrived, the candidate had not yet reached the venue.

Police have since cautioned political actors against organising or participating in political activities at night.

“All political activities should be conducted during daytime and in accordance with the law,” Kigozi warned.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
