Just In!! Security Guard Arrested Arrested over sale of illegal ammunition
The Territorial Police in Luwero district have announced the arrest of a 25-year-old security guard, Okongo Alfred Owona, in connection with the illegal possession of government ammunition. Owona, who was found in possession of four live bullets, is currently being held by authorities as investigations into the case continue.
The incident unfolded on the morning of January 7, 2026, when the supervisor of Hipos Security Company in Luwero notified the police about a suspicious individual attempting to sell four live ammunition bullets. The supervisor had caught the suspect trying to negotiate the sale of the bullets to the company. Upon receiving this information, a team from Luwero Town Council Police Station, led by the In-Charge of Crime Intelligence, acted quickly to apprehend the suspect.
When police re-arrested Owona, a body search revealed the four bullets hidden in his jacket. In further questioning, Owona revealed that he was employed by Securex Security Company Limited in Kampala and was assigned to guard the Crown Paper Factory in Kawempe Division. He admitted to stealing the ammunition from a company-issued weapon during his night shift on January 2, 2026. After his shift, he handed the weapon over to a colleague on the day shift and abandoned his post. He then traveled to Luwero with the stolen ammunition, intending to sell it.
The police are continuing their investigations into the full circumstances surrounding the theft and attempted sale of the ammunition. The public has been urged to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities involving illegal arms or ammunition to the nearest police station.
This arrest highlights the need for heightened security and accountability in the handling of government stores and firearms, particularly within private security companies. Authorities have assured the public that those found involved in such criminal activities will be held accountable, and further inquiries are ongoing. Citizens are encouraged to cooperate with law enforcement to prevent the spread of illegal weapons and ensure the safety of their communities.
