Supporters Disappointed As Betty Amongi Fears To Respond To Speaker Among’s Attacks On Her Lira City Womam MP bid

Combative as always, speaker Anita Among took the fight to gender minister Betty Amongi’s backyard of Lango and spoke her mind, recently.

She criticized the gender minister for enjoying groceries from the NRM as a member of Museveni’s executive yet at the same time she fights the party and plants seeds of division among its supporters in Lira city. She accused Amongi of undermining NRM through declaration of political war against Jane Ruth Aceng the Lira woman MP who also chairs NRM in that city.

She asked Museveni to force Amongi out of the race but the old man with the hat simply ignored-and this was the second time he was doing this at the request of speaker Among. He responded to every concern that had been raised at that NRM leaders meeting but said nothing about the Betty Amongi issue.

Being a fighter, supporters expected Amongi to immediately respond to the speaker but she has decided to just ignore. This is not because she doubts the impact of Among’s words. No, its because she realizes that Among is a very powerful person in the country who has what it takes to destroy her politically, amidst rumours that she will be standing for speakership in case she wins.

Supporters have been putting pressure on Betty Amongi to respond and also expose speaker Among’s political weaknesses, but Amongi has said she won’t be doing that because the Bukedea woman MP is too powerful as of now and can destroy any politician in the country.

This has angered some key supporters in Amongi camp who say that keeping quiet will make some voters in Lira city ghettos to abandon her thinking that she is very weak and cowardly. Amongi has said its okay the Lira ghetto boys can say what they want but she is not prepared to provoke a powerful fighter like Anita Among into a fierce war at this point in time.

The same Betty Amongi never feared fighting back when Kahinda Otafiire and Peter Ogwang attended Aceng’s big function in Lira and attacked sometime last year. She fought back against both and much of the attack was later on expanded and done by UPC president Jimmy Akena, who inside sources say will be using the Wednesday press conference at Uganda house to attack Anita Among on behalf of his wife Betty Amongi.

Many Lira residents are now in surprise as to why Betty Amongi can fearlessly resist a bush war general like Otafiire and yet at the same time fear a civilian politician like Anita Among
