Makindye West Rejects Sewanyana; Supporters Say He’s Better as a YouTuber

Former Makindye West Member of Parliament Allan Sewanyana has been advised to consider venturing into YouTube content creation following his overwhelming loss in the recently concluded general elections.

Sewanyana has served in Parliament for ten years, first entering the August House in 2016 on the Democratic Party (DP) ticket, before retaining the seat in 2021 under the National Unity Platform (NUP).

However, after losing the NUP party ticket in 2025, Sewanyana opted to contest as an independent candidate in the 2026 elections — a decision that proved costly. He was soundly defeated by NUP’s Zahara Luyirika, who comfortably retained the Makindye West seat.

Following the loss, social media users have suggested that Sewanyana should return to media, where he previously built a solid reputation before joining politics.

Many believe his strong background in sports journalism positions him well to succeed in YouTube hosting, sports analysis, and vlogging, a space that continues to grow in Uganda.

Supporters argue he should take inspiration from Bashir Kazibwe, the current Kawempe South MP, who has successfully combined politics with YouTube hosting and TikTok discussions, building a strong digital following.

While Sewanyana has not yet responded to the suggestions, the advice reflects a growing trend where former politicians reinvent themselves through digital media after exiting elective politics.
