The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has recorded a strong performance in the Lango sub-region, emerging as the dominant political force following the recent parliamentary elections. Results from across the region show that NRM candidates, together with a few from UPC and independents, claimed all the available seats, leaving the National Unity Platform (NUP) without a single Member of Parliament in Lango.

In Apac District, voters elected a mixed team, including Patrick Ocan as an Independent, Otim Odoc and Betty Engola on the NRM ticket, and Ebong Acuda from UPC. Kwania District largely favored NRM candidates, with Eron Tony and Ongu Tar winning, while Auma Lapat secured a seat for UPC. The trend continued in Kole District, where all three seats went to NRM candidates: Opio Acuti, Okot Boniface, and Aceng Sandra.

In Oyam, NRM’s Ogwang Obura took one seat, while UPC secured two through Apio Otuku and Santa Alum. Lira District also leaned heavily toward NRM, electing Ongom Aregedeng, Engola Sam, and Linda Auma. In Lira City, UPC’s Ebong Eyit won alongside NRM’s Alyera Omodi and Aceng Ocero, reflecting a competitive but still NRM-leaning outcome.

Further north, Otuke District delivered a clean sweep for NRM, electing Acon Julius, Omara Paul, and Abeja Susan. In Alebtong, UPC’s Elem Leo won, Lakica Faith took the NRM seat, while the outcome of Ajuri’s contest remains unclear. Dokolo District elected Joseph Ogwal (NRM) together with UPC’s Okwir Vincent and Aguti Sarah. Meanwhile, Amolatar District stood out as a UPC stronghold, with all three seats won by OcenOcen Kiring, Angwec Colline, and Auma Jannet.

Overall, the results underline NRM’s continued strength in the Lango region and highlight UPC’s enduring presence in specific districts. The absence of NUP representation is notable and signals a need for the party to rethink its strategy in Lango. As the region moves forward, residents will be watching closely to see how the elected leaders deliver on development, unity, and the expectations of the people who put them in office.
