The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has registered a clean sweep in the Youth and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) leadership elections in Kira Municipality, winning all contested positions in polls held on Tuesday at Kira Secondary School.

By the time journalists arrived at the polling venue, voting had already concluded under tight security deployment, with election officials tallying and announcing results shortly afterward.

In the Female Youth Representative race, Nakandi Shamim, an NRM flag bearer, emerged victorious after securing 50 votes.

The Male Youth leadership position was won by Ssengendo Bashir, also of NRM, who garnered 42 votes. The PWDs Representative seat was taken by Wagubi Mubarak, who polled 17 votes.

NRM leaders attributed the party's sweeping victory to unity among its supporters. The NRM Chairperson for Kireka Central, Nakawunde Miriam, commended party members for standing together throughout the electoral process.

"Unity among our members is what enabled us to win all these seats. I also encourage persons with disabilities to actively participate in choosing leaders who will represent their interests," Nakawunde said.

Nakawunde further praised President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, crediting him for what she described as the party's continued political success across the country.

Some of the victorious candidates welcomed their win with pledges to serve their constituencies diligently. Male Youth Representative-elect Ssengendo Bashir said the outcome of the election comes with responsibility.

"This victory comes with responsibility. I will work closely with the youth to address the challenges they face and promote their development," Bashir said.

PWDs Representative Wagubi Mubarak pledged to advocate for the rights and welfare of persons with disabilities within the municipality.

"I intend to be a strong voice for persons with disabilities and to advocate for their rights and well-being," Mubarak noted.

However, the elections were not without controversy. Some losing candidates disputed the results, alleging that the process lacked fairness and transparency.

They called for the elections to be repeated, although election officials had not immediately responded to the complaints by the time of publication.

Meanwhile, the NRM Chairperson for Kira Municipality, Mamerito Mugerwa, congratulated President Museveni on the party's victories and urged citizens to remain engaged in the ongoing leadership elections.

"I thank President Museveni for the continued victories, and I call upon Ugandans to actively participate in the remaining electoral processes," Mugerwa said.
