Vehicle Knocks Train as 4 Perish in Separate Accidents in Mayuge, Namutumba Districts

Three people have been reported dead in a fatal accident that happened in Buwolya Town council Mayuge district on Wednesday 28th January 2026 at around 5.40pm.

Busoga East Regional Police spokesperson, ASP Michael Kasadha said the accident involved a vehicle Mitsubishi Fuso Reg. No. UAR 142M loaded with traders that had been braced for the market day in Mayuge when the driver lost control along the road that is under construction, resulting into overturning several times.

Names of the dead and the fifteen others who sustained injuries had not been established by the time of filing this story. The bodies had been transferred to Mayuge Health center IV morgue while those who sustained injuries were undergoing treatment.

Relatedly, one person died instantly in an accident at Butongole railway crossing in Busembatya, Namutumba after a motor vehicle, Drone Reg.No.UA 820BS knocked a train at 23.00 hours on Wednesday. The taxi was enroute to Mbale.

The deceased has been identified as Thomas Dheyongera, 70, a resident of Isegero-Nsinze Namutumba District.

Meanwhile, thirteen people sustained injuries and were rushed to Iganga General Hospital for proper management. Police have embarked on investigations into the two separate accidents.

ASP Kasadha has cautioned drivers against over speeding and reckless driving especially now that students are returning to school and called for adherence to traffic guidelines to ensure road safety.
