Former Attorney General Justin Muturi has issued a stern warning to President William Ruto, saying the opposition will pursue legal action and mass protests if the Head of State targets opposition leaders or supporters.

Muturi spoke on Sunday, February 1, 2026, during a political rally held at Githugi in Mathioya Constituency, Murang’a County, where he addressed supporters on the state of politics, accountability, and the conduct of the current administration.

The rally, which opposition supporters from across Murang’a attended, came amid rising political tension following recent chaos and attacks on former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua while he attended a church service in Othaya last week.

Muturi used the platform to stress unity within the opposition and warned that any attempts at intimidation would face strong resistance. He framed his remarks around accountability, public resources, and the protection of political freedoms.

Speaking about what he described as a united opposition effort to remove President Ruto from power through democratic means, Muturi said the next step would be to seek accountability through the courts.

“Tukimpeleka Ruto Nyumbani, mimi nawahikikishia tukishikana na hawa ndugu zangu, Ruto akishindwa na kupelekwa nyumbani, hio siku ingine tunamkamata na kumpeleka kortini,” Muturi said during the rally.

He went on to accuse the President of mishandling public resources, saying the opposition would demand accountability once he leaves office.

“Mali ya umma lazima arudishe. Tunampekeka kortini mara moja,” Muturi added.

Muturi also warned against any form of intimidation or threats directed at opposition leaders, referring to a recent incident involving former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. He said any such move would trigger strong public action.

“Akigusa mmoja weu kama vile alimtishia Gachagua wiki iliyopita, ajue tutamwandama vilivyo,” Muturi stated.

The former Attorney General further cautioned that continued pressure or violence against opposition figures would result in widespread demonstrations, which he said would be larger than any seen before.

“Tutaandaa maandamano kubwa sana hajawai ona,” he stated.

Muturi concluded by stressing unity among opposition leaders and supporters, insisting that they are firmly aligned and prepared for what lies ahead.

“Nawahakikishia tuko tumeshikana vizuri sana,” he assured.
