Sunday morning, the people of Bunyoro gathered in Masindi Municipality to bid farewell to Owek. Nyendwoha Mutiti Amooti, the emeritus Deputy Prime Minister of the Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom, former Member of Parliament for Buliisa, and father of Hon. Norah Bigirwa, Buliisa Woman MP.
The burial ceremony was attended by officials representing President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, including Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa, who delivered remarks on the President’s behalf.
In his tribute, President Museveni described the late Mutiti as a patriotic and dedicated leader who made significant contributions to both the nation and the Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom.

He also noted Mutiti’s role as a committed NRM cadre, recalling that he was among the original 178 promoters of the National Resistance Movement and played a key role in popularising the party in the region.
Speaking at the service, Deputy Speaker Tayebwa highlighted Mutiti’s contributions during debates in the 7th Parliament, particularly on matters of education and security, and expressed gratitude to the people of Masindi for supporting the President and NRM MPs in the recent elections.
“Owek. Nyendwoha Mutiti Amooti’s dedication to his community and country serves as an enduring example of patriotic leadership. His work in strengthening NRM’s presence in Bunyoro and his voice in Parliament will be remembered for generations,” Tayebwa said.
He further reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fulfilling its promises to the people, including eradicating poverty and ensuring 100% free education.
The funeral drew thousands of residents, traditional leaders, and politicians, celebrating a life marked by public service, political activism, and unwavering commitment to the Bunyoro community.
