I Asked for a Government Position from President Museveni – Abitex
Events promoter Abbey Musigunzi, popularly known as Abitex, has revealed that he recently asked President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for a government position.
Abitex says he is seeking to be appointed as a Presidential Envoy for Events and Entertainment, a role he believes would give promoters and the entertainment industry direct representation at the highest level of government.
Speaking about his meeting with the President, Abitex explained that after successfully lobbying for billions of shillings to support promoters through their SACCO, he felt it was time for the industry to also gain political recognition.
“I told him since he gave musicians positions, we also needed one. I even wrote it down, though I don’t know the exact title, but something like a presidential envoy in events and entertainment. He accepted, but now I’m waiting for official confirmation,” Abitex said.
He added that the proposed role would allow him to champion the interests of promoters and the wider entertainment events sector, which he says contributes greatly to the economy but is often ignored in national planning.
Interestingly, Abitex also revealed that he declined to ask for a security detail, saying he prefers to maintain a low profile and avoid heavy protocols.
“I told him I didn’t go far in school, I stopped in P3 at Kijjabwemi, so I don’t want a position with too many protocols. I asked for simple things and now I’m waiting,” he added.
Abitex remains confident that the position will be confirmed soon and believes it will be a major breakthrough for Uganda’s events and entertainment industry.
