Museveni Commends UPDF for Securing Peaceful Elections at Kabale Tarehe Sita
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has praised the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and other security agencies for maintaining peace and stability during the recently concluded general elections.
While presiding over the 45th Tarehe Sita Anniversary celebrations at NTC grounds in Kabale Municipality, Museveni said the country remained calm because security forces were alert and decisive.
“I want to salute the UPDF and other security forces for the robust security they gave during the recent elections. They did a very good job,” he said.
The President revealed that there were attempts by some groups to disrupt the electoral process but noted that security agencies moved quickly to contain the situation.
“I salute the UPDF for quickly neutralising those trouble makers,” Museveni added.
He used the same occasion to thank Ugandans for turning up to vote and for maintaining calm before, during and after the polls.
“I want to thank and congratulate the people of Uganda for the recent elections which we had,” he said.
Museveni also reflected on the importance of Tarehe Sita, urging citizens to remember the sacrifices made by liberation fighters that shaped Uganda’s current peace and governance path.
Speaking on development, the President said Uganda’s economy is on a growth trajectory and expressed confidence that the country will soon transition to a higher middle-income status.
“The economy of Uganda is growing very fast… we target to become a high middle-income country in a few years,” he noted.
He pointed to tourism, commercial agriculture and manufacturing as key drivers expected to transform the Kigezi sub-region.
Museveni further announced infrastructure plans including the expansion of Kisoro Airport, the construction of another international airport in Kigezi to boost tourism, and a major airport in Mbarara to support trade.
During the celebrations, Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba pledged the army’s continued support to the President and assured the country of continued peace and security.
The event attracted top government leaders, military officers and dignitaries, with several officers receiving medals in recognition of their service to the nation.
