The deceased has been identified as Akugizibwe Mbaale. Aged 35, Akugizibwe was on leave by the time he was was shot dead. It is said that he was in plain clothes by the time he was shot dead.

It is said that the UPDF officer had moved out of the playground for a meeting with his mother. On returning to the playground, those manning the entrance insisted that he must pay if he wants to gain access to the match.

Akugizibwe Mbaale insisted he had already parted with Shs2000, which was the entrance fee. A disagreement broke out between Akugizibwe and those in charge of the entrance.

Akugizibwe had reportedly offered to give an extra Shs1000, but not Shs2000. But a police officer from Kyaterekera Police Station directed Akugizibwe to leave the playground if he was not willing to pay Shs2000.

The officer has surrendered and handed over the firearm, and a murder case has been recorded at Kagadi Central Police Station under reference number KGD CRB 152/2026.
