Police investigations into the gruesome double murder at Dave Hotel and Suites in Lungujja have taken a new turn after the prime suspect, Allan Ssempala, reportedly confessed to the killings of the hotel manager and security guard.

According to information obtained from detectives, Ssempala admitted that the attack was initially motivated by a plan to steal a smartphone from the security guard.

“I returned to the hotel when I remembered that I had seen the askari with a Tecno smartphone which I had admired while staying there as a client. I killed him when he refused to surrender it to me,” Ssempala reportedly confessed during interrogation.

Detectives revealed that prior to the murders, Ssempala had checked into Dave Hotel and Suites as a client and stayed there for two weeks after allegedly stealing Shs8 million from his uncle.

Police say he “hit a jackpot” and invited his girlfriend to stay with him at the hotel, where the pair spent lavishly until all the money was depleted.

After the cash ran out, Ssempala checked out and relocated to Nansana, where he began staying with a friend because he could no longer afford hotel or rental accommodation.

While there, he claims he remembered seeing the security guard with the Tecno smartphone, which triggered his decision to return to the hotel and steal it.

“He said he never intended to kill the guard, but the situation escalated when the victim resisted surrendering the phone,” a detective familiar with the case said.

Ssempala further confessed to killing Asasira Shivani, the hotel manager, claiming he feared she would report him to police after the attack on the guard.

Investigators also established that the late Asasira was married to the Bugiri District Police Commander (DPC), a detail that has further heightened public interest in the case.

Police say investigations are ongoing to establish whether Ssempala acted alone or had accomplices, despite earlier arrests linked to the stolen hotel vehicle.

Authorities have vowed to ensure justice for the victims as the case file is prepared for prosecution.
