Crime Crackdown in Kampala and Wakiso Leads to Hundreds of Arrests
Efforts to curb rising criminal activity and enhance public safety prompted a series of coordinated operations across parts of Kampala and Wakiso District on 16th February 2026. The operations targeted crime hotspots believed to be gathering points for individuals suspected of engaging in activities affecting residents and members of the public.
According to the Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, Luke Owoyesigyire, the Joint Task Force conducted operations in Nansana West Ward, Kyebando, and Gganda in Wakiso Sub-county and Nansana Municipality; Kitukutwe Zone, Kiwologoma, and Namugongo Nsawo Zone in Kira Municipality; Kyanja under Kira Road Policing Area; and selected black spots within the Central Business District of Kampala.
“We conducted a series of coordinated operations aimed at combating crime and enhancing public safety in identified hotspots,” Owoyesigyire said. He noted that as a result of the operations, 65 suspects were arrested in Nansana and surrounding areas, 38 suspects were arrested in Kira Municipality, 16 suspects were arrested in Kyanja, and 136 suspects — comprising 134 males and 2 females — were arrested within the Central Business District.
“All suspects were screened and charged with offences related to possession of suspected narcotic substances and other related crimes. They are currently detained at the respective police stations pending processing and court appearance,” he stated. Owoyesigyire added that exhibits of suspected narcotic substances were recovered during the operations.
“These operations are part of our ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal gathering points, eliminate criminal elements, and ensure the continued safety and security of the public,” he said. He assured the public that similar operations will continue. “The Uganda Police Force remains committed to maintaining law and order and providing a peaceful environment for all citizens,” Owoyesigyire said.
