The Catholic Church is calling on the government to act tough and reverse the worrying cycle of crime and human rights abuse in the country. The call by the Archbishop of the Diocese of Kampala, Paul Ssemogerere, came as he led Mass to commemorate the arrival of the first missionaries in Uganda, Fr Simeon Lourdel and Brother Amans Delmas, in Kigungu in 1879. The Archbishop called for an end to the practice of continuous detention of opposition supporters, who are also yet to appear for trial in courts of law
