BUSHENYI, Uganda — Police in Bushenyi District are investigating the circumstances surrounding an alleged aggravated robbery that occurred in the early hours of February 18, 2026.

According to the Greater Bushenyi Regional Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tayebwa Apollo, the incident occurred at approximately 12:30 a.m. in Katooma Cell, Ryeishe Parish, Ibaare Sub-county.

The suspect has been identified as Kankiriho Ramathan, also known as Samuel, 21, a security guard attached to Blue Water Guard Private Security Company and a resident of Katooma Cell, Ryeishe Parish.

Police allege that the suspect robbed a bar owned by Baitwababo Godfrey after reportedly putting Baitwababo’s wife, Tushemereirwe Annet, and three customers at gunpoint. During the incident, UGX 40,000 was allegedly stolen.

Officers responded promptly to information from members of the community and re-arrested the suspect after he had initially been subdued by Baitwababo, his son, his wife, and customers. The stolen cash and the company-issued firearm were recovered at the scene.

Police said the suspect is believed to be a habitual offender, based on statements from several local witnesses. He remains in custody and is expected to be charged upon completion of investigations.

Investigators are also examining whether the suspect could be linked to six other similar aggravated robbery cases recently reported in Bushenyi District.

Police commended the bravery and vigilance of the victims and community members whose swift action led to the suspect’s arrest and the recovery of the firearm.

Authorities have further warned private security companies against the misuse of firearms and urged them to enforce strict supervision of their personnel. Failure to do so, police cautioned, may result in the withdrawal of operating licenses upon recommendation by the District Security Committee (DSC).

The public has been urged to remain calm and vigilant and to promptly report suspicious individuals or activities to the nearest police station, other security agencies, or local authorities.
