Police in Bushenyi District are investigating an alleged aggravated robbery that occurred shortly after midnight on February 18, 2026, at Katooma Cell, Ryeishe Parish, Ibaare Sub-county.

The suspect, identified as Kankiriho Ramathan, also known as Samuel, 21, is a security guard attached to Blue Water Guard Private Security Company and a resident of the same area.

According to police, the suspect allegedly stormed a bar owned by Baitwababo Godfrey at around 12:30 a.m., where he reportedly put the owner’s wife, Tushemereirwe Annet, and three customers at gunpoint before taking Shs40,000.

Bushenyi Police say they swiftly responded after receiving information about the incident.

“The suspect was initially restrained by the victims and members of the community. Our officers re-arrested him and recovered the stolen cash as well as the company firearm,” said SP Tayebwa Apollo, the Regional Police Public Relations Officer for Greater Bushenyi.

Police described the suspect as a habitual offender based on statements from several local witnesses. He remains in custody and is expected to be charged in court upon completion of investigations.

Authorities are also probing whether he could be linked to six other similar aggravated robbery cases reported in the district in recent days.

“We highly commend the bravery and vigilance of the victims and community members whose quick response led to the arrest and recovery of the firearm,” SP Tayebwa added.

Police have since warned private security companies against the misuse of firearms by their personnel.

“We strongly urge all private security companies to enforce strict supervision of their guards to prevent similar incidents. Failure to do so may result in recommendations to withdraw their operating licences,” Tayebwa warned.

Residents have been urged to remain calm, vigilant, and to promptly report any suspicious individuals or activities to the nearest police station or local authorities.
