Tecno Mobile launches Camon 50 smartphone series in Uganda
KAMPALA, Uganda — Tecno Mobile introduced its latest smartphone lineup, the Camon 50 Series, to the Ugandan market on Tuesday, featuring a suite of camera upgrades and a durable glass design intended to capture a larger share of the country’s mid-range mobile sector.
The new series, which includes the Camon 50 and the Camon 50 Pro, was unveiled during an event at the Skyz Hotel Naguru. The devices succeed the Camon 40, a model that company officials said helped establish the brand’s reputation for artificial intelligence integration last year.
Bruce Dickson, a product consultant for Tecno Uganda, said at the launch that the new series is meant to be a statement device rather than a simple utility for calls and browsing.
The Camon 50 arrives with a 50-megapixel main camera and a telephoto lens capable of 50x zoom. It runs on the Android 16 operating system and is powered by a MediaTek Helio G200 Ultimate chipset.
To address common hardware concerns, Tecno has marketed the phone as being able to withstand drops from heights of up to 2.5 meters. The series features a curved glass body and is rated for dust and water resistance.
Internal specifications for the devices include 8 gigabytes of RAM and 256 gigabytes of storage. The company also highlighted a 6,150mAh battery, which it claims can provide up to 48 hours of use on a single charge.
The smartphones are available in eight colors at retail outlets across Uganda and through online platforms including Jumia and Markets by MoMo.
