Mother Arrested Over Murder of 3-Year-Old Daughter in Nateete

Kampala – Police in Nateete are holding a 24-year-old woman for allegedly murdering her three-year-old daughter in a domestic incident that occurred in Lusaze Zone, Rubaga Division, Kampala District.

The incident happened in the early hours of February 24, 2026, at around 5:00 a.m., according to police.

The deceased has been identified as Ayongeirwe Neila. Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect, Aine Shivan, allegedly stabbed her biological daughter to death while her husband, Bakwatanisa Dickson, was away from home.

Police say that after the alleged act, the suspect attempted to take her own life by injuring herself. She was rescued and is currently receiving medical treatment in hospital under police guard.

According to investigators, initial findings suggest that the couple had unresolved domestic violence issues, which may have contributed to the tragic incident. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the case are ongoing.

In a statement, Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Racheal Kawala condemned the incident, describing it as a grave act of domestic violence.

“We strongly condemn such acts of violence within domestic settings,” Kawala said, urging members of the public—especially victims of domestic violence—to seek help.

Police advised those affected by domestic abuse to report to the Child and Family Protection Unit, which provides support, protection, and intervention services.
