Police in Wakiso have scored a major win against motorcycle crime after arresting three suspects linked to a series of violent robberies. The operation, carried out by the Uganda Police Force, followed weeks of intelligence gathering targeting gangs terrorizing riders and residents in Wakiso and surrounding areas.

The breakthrough came after a complaint filed on the night of 13th February 2026. At about 10:00 pm, a rider identified as Ssesanga Equiam reported an aggravated robbery in which he was attacked by men armed with pangas. The attackers forcefully took his motorcycle, registration number UMA 191 DV, a Bajaj Boxer, leaving him shaken but alive. This incident helped police narrow down their suspects and locations.

Acting on credible intelligence, officers moved in and arrested the suspects from Old Kampala, specifically in the Bukesa–Nankulabye area. The operation led to the recovery of 10 motorcycles suspected to have been stolen from different parts of Wakiso District and beyond. The arrests were made without incident, marking a successful end to a dangerous crime trail.

During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to a range of criminal activities. These include motorcycle robberies, highway phone snatching, house breaking, and theft, among other related crimes. Police believe the gang has been operating for some time, targeting riders at night and along less busy roads.

The recovered motorcycles include registration numbers UDH 516H, UGB 248V, UEV 046C, UDH 746H, UDK 657F, and UDN 001C, as well as four Bajaj motorcycles without number plates. Police have called on members of the public who lost motorcycles under similar circumstances to come forward and help with identification.

Investigations are still ongoing as police work to establish the full network behind the crimes and trace other possible victims. Authorities have reassured the public that operations will continue to ensure safety, especially for motorcycle riders who remain a frequent target of armed criminals.
