JUST IN: Police Arrests Robber Targeting Bank Customer in Kampala City, Recover Shs21M
Police in Kampala Metropolitan have arrested a suspected robber targeting bank customers using motorcycles.
According to a statement issued by Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire on Friday, 6th March, 2026, the suspect has been identified as Wagaba Hussen, a 27-year-old male adult from Kayunga in Wakiso District.
“Wagaba was arrested today, 06 March, 2026, following an attempted robbery in Najeera,” says Owoyesigyire.
He says that the targeted victim, a one Nakawomne Deborah, aged 27, had withdrawn Shs21 million from a bank in Ntinda and hired a boda boda to return home to Buwaate.
“On reaching Najeera, a few meters from the police station opposite Stabex, another motorcycle approached at high speed, and the passenger grabbed her bag,” narrates Owoyesigyire.
The victim raised an alarm, prompting police officers nearby to respond immediately. One suspect who was riding the motorcycle managed to escape due to heavy traffic, which made it unsafe for officers to engage. However, the suspect who grabbed the bag was arrested, and the UGX 21 million was recovered.
The suspect is currently detained at Najjera Police Station as investigations continue and efforts are underway to arrest the accomplice.
