Government through the Ministry of Works and Transport has lived by its word and has started evicting road reserve encroachers in Kampala City.
A statement issued by the Ministry today, Friday, March 6, 2026 confirms that the Ministry’s Enforcement Team this week carried out an eviction exercise along the Gayaza–Kalagi road section to restore and protect the road reserve.
“The exercise aims to remove illegal structures and activities encroaching on the road reserve, in line with the mandate of the Ministry of Works and Transport to ensure safety, preserve infrastructure and maintain orderly development along national roads,” reads the statement in part.
The Ministry says affected individuals were issued prior notices in accordance with the law, and the enforcement team ensured the exercise was conducted professionally and peacefully.
Early this week, the Minister for State for Works, Musa Ecweru directed for the immediate eviction of car dealers operating in road reserves and pedestrian walkways in Kampala City especially along Nakawa, Banda, Kireka and Bweyogerere
The Minister gave the order on Tuesday, March 3, 2026 saying,” I have directed coordinated compliance operations with the Uganda Police Force to restore safety and order along Nakawa, Banda, Kireka and Bweyogerere effective this week.
